Hi everyone! I’ve always been passionate about the sciences and the human body, receiving my master’s in physiology in 2008, and I fell in love with pregnancy and childbirth when we had our first in 2009.

Cesarean Birth

Our son was born by unplanned cesarean due to “failure to progress.” I had a very difficult time healing emotionally from this and, in 2010, I started our local ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) chapter with co-leader Christine W.

I immersed myself in all things birth—I tried to read all the books, posts online, and scientific articles. I watched the videos, dove into ICAN, and attended the national ICAN conference in 2011.

In 2012, we had a VBAC homebirth with a midwife after 58 hours of labor. Both of my birth experiences changed my life in different ways and I appreciate where they have brought me.

One of the things that helped me overcome my own fears was Birthing From Within. I read the book and was lucky enough to see Pam England speak and then have a one-on-one with her. When I decided to venture into childbirth education, it only seemed natural to continue my education with the same organization that encouraged me. Read more about this philosophy.

In 2014, I attended the introductory Birthing From Within workshop and then enrolled in their mentoring program. I am continuously learning and am excited to be doing this work with local women!

BFW certificate

I previously taught anatomy and physiology at a local college and I now work from home. In addition to my Birthing from Within training, I’ve become certified in the mamalates birth recovery method for pregnant and postpartum women, trained in acupressure for pregnancy and birth, and certified in Birthing Mama Prenatal Yoga & Wellness. I love continuing my education and learning all I can to work in this field with local families!
